Children's Music Journey Volume 1 feels like a game, but with every use your child develops the ability to read music and perform on an instrument. Focus is on the language of music, while significant instrumental skill is developed with each volume.
Children's Music Journey software "listens" to each key-press your child makes on their MIDI Piano keyboard (or computer keyboard) and provides intelligent feedback in real time, at every stage of the learning process. Suitable Piano keyboards that support General MIDI can be purchased online for $100+.
Engaging animated lessons within the software allow children to get to know the lives of famous composers as they continue a hands-on process to master each of the carefully sequenced concepts and skills.
The games in Children's Music Journey are fun and age appropriate, but no time is wasted as the games keep children engaged building skills in a natural and effective way.
A typical 10-20 minutes of use includes taking a lesson from Beethoven, Bach, Scott Joplin, Fanny Mendelssohn or Villa Lobos, followed by games, and improvising along with a band or orchestra. The next day the child takes a practice lesson with the lovely miss Melody and goes to the library to learn a new piece or listen to some famous music. Volume 1 is usually completed by a five year old in 1 year, if they use the software several times per week. Younger children take longer, older children tend to complete more quickly.
Children's Music Journey offers an easy start, but makes efficient use of time. It stays fun, keeps children engaged, and tests competency at every stage. Children develop at a rate comparable to traditional 1:1 piano lessons, and will consistently be successful learning the language of music and developing performance skills.
The journey isn't entirely automatic for young children. It's helpful for parents (or music specialist) to sit with the child for 1/2 hr every week to review progress and suggest changes to the child's approach. A good music teacher will consistently succeed with students, including atypical learners.
Regular use of the software for practice steadily builds your child's skills so they're soon reading music fluently and playing with both hands.
